The black mulberry is a fruit tree common to Reunion Island originating from western Asia. It produces a small fruit - the blackberry - which should not be confused with the bramble blackberry. Morus nigra has long been used in Chinese medicine for its benefits. Recent studies highlight its usefulness for the prevention and treatment of type 2 diabetes thanks to its hypoglycemic effects.
