Cinnamomum burmannii L. , which has its origins in India, is an aromatic plant very appreciated for its bark. The cinnamon leaf is often overlooked although it has many properties. In Reunion, it is used in cooking in dishes of Indian origin such as curries, massales, broths, rice. Cinnamon leaf is also known in traditional Reunionese pharmacopoeia to stimulate the appetite, relieve digestive disorders, fight against flu-like conditions and regulate blood sugar levels.
Properties :
Antibacterial and antiseptic
Cinnamon leaf tea is used as a herbal tea against “colds” or colds.
Digestive
Cinnamon leaf is known to stimulate intestinal transit and to reduce bloating and flatulence.
Anti-diabetic
Cinnamon is used in people with diabetes to stabilize blood sugar levels.
Examples of use:
Tisane
Infused for around ten minutes: 4 cinnamon leaves for a liter of water. Drink before each meal.
Precautions:
Limit consumption to 3 cups of herbal teas per day, as cinnamon can cause gastric irritation in high doses. For people taking medication against ulcers, cardiovascular diseases or diabetes, medical advice is necessary before consuming cinnamon in herbal teas. It is also not recommended for pregnant women and young children.
